New Born Baby Names

From time to time, we look at our search engine logs. These tell us how some people arrive at this site: specifically which search engine (google, yahoo, bing, etc) and what they searched for ("unusual baby names", "unique names for babies", etc).

One curiousity is the search term "new born baby names." This set us to wondering if there are some cultures where the name for a new born baby is different than the name for, say, a week old baby. Perhaps they use a provisional name such as "TBA" (To Be Announced). Or maybe they need to check the kid out to determine a name. Something suitable: didn't they do something like that in "Dances With Wolves" for the woman who they called "Stands with Fist". They had to wait for her to stand and shake her fist.
